This document explains how it is possible to install Tango/04 products in an iSeries system without an FTP connection through another iSeries system with FTP connection. You can also use this procedure to do a manual installation on any iSeries if necessary.

Symptoms

Usually the installation fails at 0%. If you try to connect using the FTP command to the iSeries it will fail at the begining or during the authentication.

Pre requisites

You need to locate our Visual Message Center - iSeries installation file.

Notes:
System A: iSeries with an FTP connection.
System B: iSeries without an FTP connection, but connected to System A

The following procedure may be used only with these products:

  1. Visual Message Center (iSeries Modules)
  2. Visual Support
  3. Visual Debugger for Windows
  4. Visual Control for Job/Pools
  5. Data Monitor for iSeries
  6. LPAR Tuner

Review the following information, putting special attention to Step 2: http://kb.tango04.com/content/159

Step 1

Locate the following ZIP files by extracting the contents of the installer:

For Nicelink (should be something like \PRODUCT\ASInstall\Eng\)

  1. DRIVER1.ZIP
  2. LABELSAVF1.ZIP
  3. KEYSAVF1.ZIP (this may not be included in the installer)
  4. T4NICELINK1.ZIP

For every product:

  1. Visual Message Center (iSeries Modules):
    B_DETECTOR1.ZIP
    B_DETECADD1.zip (only V5R2 or greater)
  2. Visual Support:
    VSCREEN1.ZIP
  3. Visual Debugger for Windows:
    VISUALW1.ZIP
  4. Visual Control for Job/Pools:
    JOBCTL1.ZIP
    JOBCTLADD1.ZIP (only V5R3 or greater)
  5. Data Monitor for iSeries:
    T4DATAMON1.ZIP
    T4DATAADD1.ZIP (only V5R2 or greater)
  6. LPAR Tuner:
    T4LPAR1.ZIP

Step 2

Unzip the ZIP files to temporary PC folder. For example: C:\TEMP
DAT files will be created in the chosen folder. In this case: C:\TEMP
For every ZIP file, there is a .DAT file called <XXXXXX>PF.DAT

Step 3

Create a T4_INSTALL lib in System A (with FTP connection):

  1. CRTLIB LIB(T4_INSTALL)

Step 4

Create the following SAVF files in T4_INSTALL library:

For Nicelink:

  1. CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/DRIVER)
  2. CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/LABELSAVF)
  3. CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/KEYSAVF)
  4. CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/T4NICELINK)

For every product:

  1. Visual Message Center (iSeries Modules):
    CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/B_DETECTOR)
    CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/B_DETECADD) (only V5R2 or greater)
  2. Visual Support:
    CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/VSCREEN)
  3. Visual Debugger for Windows:
    CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/VISUALW)
  4. Visual Control for Job/Pools:
    CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/JOBCTL)
    CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/JOBCTLV5R3) (only V5R3 or greater)
  5. Data Monitor for iSeries:
    CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/T4DATAMON)
    CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/T4DATAADD) (only V5R2 or greater)
  6. LPAR Tuner:
    CRTSAVF FILE(T4_INSTALL/T4LPAR)

Step 5

Now that T4_INSTALL library and all the SAVF files has been created, It's possible to transfer the "<XXXXXX>PF.DAT" files to the iSeries using FTP.

How to connect to FTP through Windows command line:

  1. Open cmd.exe
  2. Run the command: "ftp <iSeries_IP_address>"
  3. Provide user and password
  4. Run the command: "bin" to set Representation type to binary IMAGE

For Nicelink:

  1. PUT C:\TEMP\DRIVERPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/DRIVER
  2. PUT C:\TEMP\LABELPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/LABELSAVF
  3. PUT C:\TEMP\KEYSPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/KEYSAVF
  4. PUT C:\TEMP\NLINKPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/T4NICELINK

For every product:

  1. Visual Message Center (iSeries Modules):
    PUT C:\TEMP\DETECTPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/B_DETECTOR
    PUT C:\TEMP\DETECAPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/B_DETECADD (only V5R2 or greater)
  2. Visual Support:
    PUT C:\TEMP\VSCREENP.DAT T4_INSTALL/VSCREEN
  3. Visual Debugger for Windows:
    PUT C:\TEMP\VISUALWP.DAT T4_INSTALL/VISUALW
  4. Visual Control for Job/Pools:
    PUT C:\TEMP\JOBCTLPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/JOBCTL
    PUT C:\TEMP\JOBADDPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/JOBCTLADD (only V5R3 or greater)
  5. Data Monitor for iSeries:
    PUT C:\TEMP\T4DTMPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/T4DATAMON
    PUT C:\TEMP\T4DTMAPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/T4DATAADD (only V5R2 or greater)
  6. LPAR Tuner:
    PUT C:\TEMP\T4LPARPF.DAT T4_INSTALL/T4LPAR

Step 6

Now, it is necessary to restore the Driver file, which will be done in System A, using the following command:

  1. RSTOBJ OBJ(*ALL) SAVLIB(T4_INSTALL) DEV(*SAVF) OBJTYPE(*ALL) SAVF(T4_INSTALL/DRIVER)

Step 7

At this point, to install this product in another iSeries, for example, System B (without FTP connection), you have to copy the T4_INSTALL lib in System B, and then execute the following command to launch the installation process:

  1. T4_INSTALL/INSTALL

Post requisites

Check installation results with:

  1. DSPMSG T4_INSTALL/T4_INSTALL (or DSPMSG QGPL/T4_INSTALL if it fails)

Note 1: T4_INSTALL/INSTALL must be executed in all iSeries where you want to install the products.

Note 2: When using iASP, beware that all products are installed in the system base ASP (1-32). iASP 33-256 can be monitored, however, the products must be installed in a system base ASP.
