Q. Does InterMapper always re-poll a device when a trap is received?

A. There are three exceptions for when InterMapper will not automatically re-poll upon receipt of a trap:

1. InterMapper will only poll upon receipt of a trap if there is a device on the
map with an SNMP probe type, and it is not a "trap-only" probe.

2. InterMapper will never poll upon receipt of an "authenticationFailure" trap.

3. When InterMapper initiates a re-poll due to a trap, it starts a "hold-off
timer" of 30 seconds. Any subsequent traps received after the first trap just set a flag; they do not immediately initiate a re-poll. When the "hold-off timer" expires, InterMapper will re-poll the device if the flag is set indicating traps arrived during the "hold-off" interval.
