Before You Begin

There are several methods you can use to back up Automate Schedule on one system and restore to a different system. Automate Schedule must be installed on both systems. Automate Schedule ships a backup script and a restore script that helps with this process.

Note: Skybot Scheduler has been renamed to Automate Schedule and is now part of the Automate suite of products. The existing Skybot Scheduler features and functionality are the same; only the product name has changed.

Moving Automate Schedule

Use the following steps to move your Automate Schedule enterprise server from a source system to your target system.

Note: Automate Schedule can be active during this backup so it can be scheduled during business hours and run as often as required by your disaster recovery plan. For more information on use of the backup database commands, see " Backup and Restore Procedures for Automate Schedule." 

  1. Schedule the correct backup database command in an Automate Schedule job:

    • Windows: backupdatabase.bat
    • UNIX/Linux: ./backupdatabase.sh
  2. Before restoring the database, contact your Regional Sales Manager for a temporary license code for the target system. If the system is permanently licensed, make sure you have the code available. The restore database command will overwrite the existing code and it will need to be re-entered after the restore completes.

  3. Restore your backup file to the target system using the correct restore database command:

    • Windows: restoredatabase.bat
    • UNIX/Linux: ./restoredatabase.sh
  4. Automate Schedule must be installed on the backup system before restoring. Automate Schedule must be inactive while the restore is processing. For additional information on the restore database command, see "Backup and Restore Procedures for Automate Schedule." 

  5. When the restore has completed on the backup system, the license key for that system must be entered before the server is brought up. To enter the license key, log on to Automate Schedule and select Licenses from the Admin menu. If you are using a temporary code, enter it under Trial License. If it is a permanent license code, enter it under Primary License. The previous code will be overwritten by the database restore.

  6. Log on to each agent registered to the target system and run the following command to switch the agent from the source to the target system. Enter the IP address of the target server and the port (default port is 7472).

    • Windows: switch ipaddress:port
    • UNIX/Linux: ./switch.sh ipaddress:port

    Example: switch 10.10.10.10:7472 or ./switch.sh 10.10.10.10:7472

  7. Start the agent service:

    • Windows: Use the Automate Schedule Agent Manager to start the agent service.
    • UNIX/Linux: Run the ./start.sh script.
