This document shows you how to create a new view/report in Halcyon Disk Space Manager (DSM) to show the count of objects in a library.

It is recommended to give reports, views and formats the same name, so you know that they are all grouped together.

For the Object count view that we are going to create, we will also create a user defined field, to show the count 7 days ago, for comparison purposes.

There are a number of components that need to be in place, when creating new views/reports, as defined below:

  1. Create any additional “User defined” fields required (optional)
  2. Create the format for the layout
  3. Create the view
  4. Create the report (optional)

Create the “User Defined Field” field

GO HALYCON > 27 > 42 > 3 > F6

Enter a field name, this must start with an *, if you do not enter one, it will automatically prefix the field name when you press Enter

Set the type to 2

Press Enter

  1. Set Source data to OBJCNT
  2. Set Relative age to 7
  3. Set Units to *DAYS
  4. Set Field length to 10
  5. Enter some valid text for normal screen mode (2 lines per column heading)
  6. Enter some valid text for full screen mode (1 line per column heading)
  7. Press Enter

Create the format

GO HALYCON > 27 > 42 > 2

Copy (option 3) QSL_DATES to a new name (We are going to use QSL_COUNT).

  1. Set the new view name to QSL_COUNT
  2. Set the description appropriately
  3. Remove sequence numbers 70 and 80 on the first page, then page down, and remove sequence numbers 90 and 100 to leave the following:

  1. Now add in sequence numbers 70 and 80 as shown
  2. Press Enter to see final format of screen

Create the view

GO HALYCON > 27 > 42 > 2 > F6

  1. Set the new view name to QSL_COUNT.
  2. Set the description appropriately.
  3. Set the path to QSYS.LIB (as we are only looking for libraries)
  4. Set the View mode to *FLAT
  5. Set the format to the previously created QSL_COUNT
  6. Set the sort to *OBJCD to sort by descending object count
  7. Change the ”Object Type or Set” to *LIB (as we only require libraries)
  8. Press Enter to save the view and you will see it listed in the work with views screen

Create the Report

GO HALYCON > 27 > 42 > 4 > F6

  1. Set the new report name to QSL_COUNT
  2. Set the description appropriately
  3. Set the view to the view name created previously “QSL_COUNT
  4. Set Include detail to Y
  5. Set the Records to print to a suitable value, we will use 50 for our report
  6. Press Enter

Check the view

GO HALYCON > 27 > 10

Select the QSL_COUNT created earlier.

Select the *CUR build for the latest build.

You can now see on the screen if you have created it correctly.

Print the report

GO HALYCON > 27 > 40 > 10

Place a 1 (Run report) against QSL_COUNT and press Enter to confirm.

The report file will have the same name (QSL_COUNT)

Note: The report can look different to the on-screen display (this is controlled within the format)
