Introduction

This document is a quick reference to configure Halcyon to send alerts via email using a standard SMTP server using port 25 and a plain connection.

Pre-requisites

  • You need to know your SMTP Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN)
  • You need to know which port your SMTP server is configured to use
  • Your email server will be required to accept connections from the server where Halcyon is running
  • Your email server will be required to accept mail from the address you configure within Halcyon.

Quick reference

Configure system defaults

GO HALCYON > 21 > or WRKSYSDFT PRODUCT(HMC)

EMAILFORMAT Set to *AUTO (This is the default)
EMAILADDRRROMADDR Set to the address you want the email to come from. For example; [email protected]
EMAILMETHOD Set to *SMTP (This is the default)
SMTPSERVER Set to the FQDN of your SMTP server. For example; MYSMTPSERVER.MYDOMAIN.COM
SMTPSERVEROPT Set to *PLAIN (This is the default)
SMTPSERVERPORT Set to 25 (This is the default)
SMTPSERVERTMOUT Set to 60
MIMEDIR Ensure it is set to ‘/Halcyon/envname/MIME’ Substitute envname for your environment name. For example; HALPROD

Configure a test email address

GO HALCYON > 21 > 12 > F6 or WRKEMLADR > F6

Ensure Message communicator and the action monitors are started.

GO HALCYON > 3 or WRKMON

Ensure that the HALACT (Primary Action Monitor) and HMCCOM (Primary Communications Monitor) are started.

Send a test email

GO HALCYON > 21 > 41 > 2 or SNDTXTMSG

Use the email address set up earlier as the “To message device”

Check the progress

GO HALCYON > 21 > 2 > F5 or WRKCMNLOG > F5
