Halcyon SQL Instance on a local SQL Express Installation

If you have SQL installed locally on the Enterprise Server you will not migrate the existing alerts, you will simply “cut over” to the new server, at the point prior to cutting over, you should clear the existing console of alerts. Then use these instructions to migrate the configuration data.

Halcyon SQL Instance on a SQL Enterprise Server

If you have the Halcyon SQL instance installed on a SQL Enterprise Server you CANNOT have two Enterprise Consoles accessing it concurrently. You must either;

  1. Install the New Enterprise Console Database Instance to a NEW instance name and then migrate the configuration data using these instructions.
  2. Shutdown the existing Enterprise Console Server BEFORE Installing the new software and pointing it to the existing Halcyon SQL Instance. You will need to migrate the Enterprise Server options and layout files only.

Enterprise Console Licence

A new licence key is required.

If you require your Enterprise Console to be operational immediately, request a temporary code from [email protected].

Once, you have installed the software on the new server, you will be able to determine the machine ID and request a new licence code from [email protected].

Process steps

  1. Download and install the Enterprise Console in a new server.
  2. Save data from original console server:
    1. Export Enterprise Server Options.
    2. Export Device manager.
    3. Export data from Address Book.
    4. Move layout files (if required)
  3. Transfer data files to new server.
  4. Import data on new server from;
    1. Import Enterprise Server Options.
    2. Import Device Manager.
    3. Import data from Address Book.
  5. Re-Select the Instant Alert Server.
  6. Confirm the correct Enterprise Server is specified in Instant Alert.
  7. Move any layout files.
  8. Move any MIB files for the Trap Receiver, if using.

Export Enterprise Server Options

Open Halcyon Enterprise Server Options

  1. Click Import/Export.
  2. Click Export.
  3. Provide a name for the export file.
  4. Click “OK”.

Export Devices from Device Manager

Open Device Manager and click on the top left tab.

Click on “Export Devices”.

  1. Note the default location for the file.
  2. Provide a different filename if you wish.
  3. Click “Save”.

A confirmation dialogue is shown:

Address book

The script listed below needs to be run in SQL management studio. The script outputs another script that must be copied and/or saved and run on the new server – it will recreate the data in the new server database.

Transfer data files to new server

Transfer the exported data files to the new server using whichever method you prefer.

Import Enterprise Server Options

Open Halcyon Enterprise Server Options.

  1. Click Import/Export.
  2. Click Import.
  3. Browse to the required file.
  4. Click “OK”.

Then click Apply and close.

Import Devices from Device Manager

Open Device Manager and click on the top left tab.

Click on “Import Devices”.

The following dialogue is shown, click YES to confirm.

Then, using the file browser, select the file you wish to restore from and click “Open”.

Click OK to finish.

Verify that your new server is shown within device manager, remove the old server.

Next, stop and restart the Halcyon Enterprise Console Service.

Address book

Run SQL script created in previous step.

Restart the Halcyon Instant Alert Service.

Open your address book and check that the Address Book entries are correct.

Re-Select the Instant Alert Server

Open Enterprise Server Options

  1. Click Advanced
  2. Click Instant Alert
  3. Check the name of the server is correct
  4. If you need to change it, Click Select Server and click on the correct device
  5. Click Verify Server to check the connection

Confirm the correct Enterprise Server is specified in Instant Alert

Open Instant Alert Options

  1. Click Options
  2. Click Enterprise Server
  3. Verify the name of the Enterprise Console Server
  4. If you need to change it, click Select Server and click on the correct device

Move layout files

Layout files are stored in the following locations:

Pre-version 2016.057

%APPDATA% Roaming\Halcyon\Enterprise Console\Layouts

For example: C:\Users\mdavison\AppData\Roaming\Halcyon\Enterprise Console\Layouts

After version 2016.057 V10.3 onwards

%PROGRAMDATA%\Halcyon\Enterprise Console\Layouts

For example: C:\ProgramData\Halcyon\Enterprise Console\Layouts

Copy all *.lyt files to the new location on the new server.

Move MIB files for the trap receiver

If you are using the Trap receiver, you need to copy ALL the MIB files from the existing server to the new server, the restart the trap receiver service.

The MIB files are stored in the following directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Halcyon\Trap Receiver\Mibs
