To convert to TIFF with WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Print Server and FormDocs, you need to purchase a basic TIFF print driver. PeerNet TIFF Image Printer is fully integrated with WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Print Server and has the following additional benefits:
  • Low cost: $135 (US).
  • Smaller file sizes than most competitive TIFF writers.

Note: TIFF file sizes are still larger than PDFs. If file size is your biggest concern, use PDF output instead.

  • Good output quality.
To set up WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Print Server and PeerNet TIFF Image Printer to convert to TIFF:

Note: These instructions use TIFF Image Printer 7.0 but can be adapted for other versions.

  1. Download TIFF Image Printer from the PeerNet website.
  2. Install TIFF Image Printer on the PC that runs WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Print Server.
  3. Go to Start > Programs > TIFF Image Printer 7.0 > Printing Preferences.

The print driver configuration options open.

  4. Click the Save tab.

    1. Choose Multi-page.
    2. In Output Directory, choose the same directory where you installed WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Print Server. This is the directory where the temporary file is created.
    3. In Filename, choose report for the name of the temporary file.
    4. Check the following boxes:
      • Overwrite always
      • Prompt only when needed
      • Remove file extension from filename
      • Remove product name from filename
  5. Click the Paper/Quality tab.

    1. Choose whether you want the TIFFs to be black & white or color.

Note: Adding color, increasing the DPI, or lowering the compression rate all generate significantly larger files. If file size is a concern, use black & white output or, for color with smaller file sizes, use PDF output instead.

    2. Click Advanced and make sure that Print Quality is not higher than 300 x 300 dots per inch.
  6. Click the Compression tab and change these options to meet your needs.

Note: Changing the Dithering Method for color output restricts annotations to black & white.

  7. Click OK to save the changes.
  8. Edit the WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Print Server INI file:
    1. Exit WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Print Server.
    2. Go to the WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Print Server program directory and edit the file WSPEFORM.INI.
    3. In WSPEFORM.INI, find the option PrintToFile and make sure it is set to 1:

      PrintToFile=1

Note: This option allows TIFF Image Printer to specify the destination directory for the temporary file.

  9. Change the output type:
    1. Open WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Print Server.
    2. Choose Table Entry > Edit Forms Print Output Directory List.
    3. For each record (row) that creates TIFFs:
      1. In Output Type, choose TIF.

      2. In Windows Printer for HTML/FormDocs Printing, choose TIFF Image Printer 7.0.

      3. Click OK.

WinSpool/400 Electronic Forms Print Server is now set to convert to TIFF using TIFF Image Printer.
