Problem:

The iSeries is splitting up your SMTP email attachments.

Solution for OS/400 V3R2 and V3R7:

OS/400 releases prior to V4R1 require you to install a PTF, then create a new data area.

To disable SMTP message splitting:
  1. Get and install the correct PTF for your OS/400 release. Contact your IBM service representative for instructions. The OS/400 Release Product Identifier PTF Numbers are:
    • For V3R2: 5763TC100 SF42422
    • For V3R7: 5716TC100 SF37157

Note: PTF cover letters contain installation procedures. Your IBM service representative can help you with installation if you are not familiar with the procedure. General PTF ordering and installation procedures are available in AS/400 Basic System Operation, Administration, and Problem Handling, which is in the IBM AS/400 Online Library: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/pubs/html/as400/online/homeeng1.htm

  2. Create a new data area called QUSRSYS/QTMSNOSPLT to turn email-message splitting off:

    CRTDTAARA DTAARA(QUSRSYS/QTMSNOSPLT)

Note: If you need to turn email-message splitting back on, delete this new data area.

Note: Turning off email-message splitting may cause problems when sending large emails to mail clients that cannot handle large messages.

Solution for OS/400 V4R1 and above:

OS/400 releases V4R1 and above do not require a PTF. All you need to do is create a new data area.

To disable SMTP email message splitting:
